United States African Development Foundation (USADF) and Niger State Government
USADF is an independent United State Agency established to support African-led development that grows enterprises by providing seed capital and technical support. USADF provides grants funds directly to reach underserved enterprises that are ready to do their part. This empowers those who are least served by existing markets or assistance programs to become a part of Africa’s growth story. USADF connects community enterprises with capital and technical support organizations create and sustain jobs, improve income levels, achieve greater food security, and address human development needs.
USADF and the Niger State Government intends to work together to provide development grants to Niger State farmer cooperatives, producer associations and small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). The goals are to increase Niger State’s market competitiveness and positively impact the individual and cooperative farmers, the organizations, and grassroots communities by increasing product output and general income.
The coordinating office will seek proposals from SMEs, cooperatives, and producer groups in Niger State and provide them with financing and local support, with innovative solutions that will extend their own capabilities to increase revenues, create jobs, improve farmer incomes, and achieve sustainable market-based growth.
This USADF and Niger State Government partnership program may not only limited to employment generation, wealth creation and poverty reduction, it will go a long way in creating social relations, inclusiveness, mixed performance, income sustainability that will enable enterprise to achieve unimaginable goals. This project can help farmers benefit from economies of scale to lower their costs of acquiring inputs or hiring services such as storage and transport facilities. It will also enable farmers to improve product and service quality and reduce risks. There will be tendency to empower enterprise economically and socially by involving members in decision-making processes that will create additional rural employment opportunities in the areas of smallholder agriculture production (maize, sorghum, soya beans and sesame) and livestock/aquaculture such as beef, goats, dairy (abattoirs, milk consolidation centres), fish ponds that will enable enterprise to be more resilient to economic and environmental shocks. This will also unify various MSMEs through community relation intervention programs to foster peaceful co-existence among the people irrespective of any divides.
